so i locked her in the cage, and she started miaoing incessantly. i knew people outside can hear it, so i kept her in my cupboard.
i bent down and stare at her soulful eyes.
"why, why do you want freedom? what do cats do with freedom? you have a boring life. your world is completely explored. what else can you do besides eating, shitting and sleeping?
"take it from me, a human with freedom. i have to earn my freedom, by trading my life for work and studies. for a life of performances, for artificial pleasure, to keep pets such as you.
"by doing so, my freedom is actually taken from me, for no one can survive without money, and no one is greed free.
"my pseudo freedom gives me pseudo happiness, till the day my ashes turn into feed for the fishes of the sea, which become food for cats, and the cycle of life goes on."
to my surprise, she responded.
"because the the feeling of being free that i crave, it doesn't matter that, once the cage door is opened, i will not move around. i may, however, so to the tiny crevice that i love and sit there for an hour, with you none the wiser.
"you say, i don't move, so it's like sitting in a cage. i tell you, it's a different feeling. compare a prison to a grand hotel room. you don't move around in either confined spaces. ignoring the comfort level, one has distaste for prisons because you are forced into it. but you pay ridiculous sums of money for a hotel room.
"we look at tourists. will they pay to stay in preserved prisons left behind in war? of course. you would too, because it has some sort of meaning to it. excuse me but you humans are probably the weirdest people ever. prisons are prisons. you want to stay in them to experience what the prisoners of war experienced, to try something new.
"i shall set aside my repugnance of humans for now to focus on the topic at hand. point is, i want to choose where i am confined. you humans fool yourselves into thinking you have freedom. good for you, you know of your pseudo freedom. but the thing is, you don't have freedom.
"your choices are made from a fixed list of options. it's like giving a prisoners an option, to die by lethal injection, hanging, or the electric chair.
"most people would take lethal injection- that is, the easy way out. other more adventurous ones want to think that they differ from the norm, and choose the electric chair. the end results for all living things are the same, we all die.
"you say we lead a boring life. but so do you. at least, to me. what pleasure is there in studying? in working? the most pleasurable of all is to sit in a corner and spend my time thinking. that is how, as a cat, i have more wisdom than you do."
