curiouser and curiouser, said alice

one wave crashes, you thought you might drown,
but no.
it threatens to rape you of air but you fight back.
the next comes, and you're more prepared. but this merely tightens its hold on you before letting go.
letting your guard down, you almost drown under the next monster of a wave which washes up even before the previous one subsides.
you're almost out of breath before managing to surface for air.
you're surprised,
but you can't move.
you, after all, belong to the sand. rooted to the sand after countless waves.
you know, though, that the tide will pull the continual waves away from you.
you won't feel them anymore,
soon.
but you know that tides are but another cycle, and tomorrow, the waves will start to erode you once again.
so you adapt,
you learn to breath underwater. if you cant,
you learn to hold your breath, and get ready for the next wave.
but predictability is not something learnt from waves.
there's only comfort that after this tide, you rest from the struggle. that is, until the next tide comes in,
and it starts over.
question is, how do you learn to adapt, if you are only there for few cycles?
you can't, not really.
so you just learn to..
live with it.
