"With her short hair and lean body, Bernard's experience of travelling across borders also meant, "travelling across gender"."
Was reading a write up of an article (bam, articleception) and this sentence hits me. so hard. i had a physical reaction to it.
i don't know why it matters, especially to me, i know i will never get mistaken for a boy, well right now at least, with my long hair and awful loads of make up i put. i think no matter how androgynous i try to be, i can never pull off the look.. ramblings aside, this sentences highlights how different cultures view different gender identities in varying ways, you can look the same definitely, but across cultures, how people view you will be different.
just, wow.
Bernard, btw, is Jay Bernard. which is, still a very masculine name to me hurhur. like how i kept citing Ashley Tellis as a "she" without checking. turned out it's a dude and my prof marked me out :/
